Unarmed shrubs; pubescence of simple and branched hairs.
Leaves narrowly oblong to lanceolate, 1–6 cm long, 0.5–1.5 cm wide, apex acute or obtuse, base cuneate, decurrent, entire or sinuate, pubescent or glabrous; petiole 2–5 mm long.
Inflorescences leaf opposed or extra-axillary, of solitary (rarely paired) flowers or short racemes; peduncle short or obsolete; pedicel 3–4 mm long. Calyx 4 mm across, lobes 1.5 mm long; corolla white or mauve, 0.8–1.5 cm across, lobed to about middle; filaments less than 1 mm long, glabrous; anthers 2 mm long.
Berry orange-red, fleshy, 1.2–1.5(–2) cm across; seeds discoid, 2–3 mm across.
Cultivated as an ornamental and for the fruits.
